I think London has always been viewed as one of the major epicentres for all things political, social, financial and related to the media. Despite England’s modest size (our island is tiny!!) we do pretty well in staking our claim for things and making ourselves known and respected.
I think that’s why some people view us a suitable places to campaign. On Saturday just gone, (March 8th) 15 students from the University of Western Ontario set up camp in Covent Garden to talk about socio-economic and climate change in the world.
The students are part of a wider group called Engineers Without Borders who promote change through technology and innovation in under-developed countries.
On Saturday, the students provided the public with free samples of Fairtrade chocolate yum!!
One of the students, Lauren Hockin said: “It’s a powerful thing, like casting a vote. It’s using your consumer power to say that you care about what you’re buying and where it came from.”
Engineers Without Borders have 26 Universities joined up, all of which are aiming to reach a total of 100,000 people through staging events such as these.
